Today, Congresswoman Leger Fernández, a member of the powerful and influential House Rules Committee, led the floor debate against the rule that made in order H.R. 734, a bill that would attack trans girls by prohibiting them from participating in school sports. Video of the speech opening is HERE and her closing remarks are HERE. Additional photos are available HERE. An excerpt from the Congresswoman’s remarks can be found below: “H.R. 734 is about bullying kids. The problem is this: When you bully these kids, it can lead to their death. The problem isn’t whether a kid is trans or not. It is: Are they accepted? When 53% of trans kids have considered suicide, my colleagues have chosen to use fear to score political points.” ### |
