WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández (NM-03) sent a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack, urging the agency to prioritize tribal input and address key concerns in the implementation of the Child Nutrition Programs Tribal Pilot Projects. This initiative, led in the House by Leger Fernández and included in her Tribal Nutrition Improvement Act of 2023 (H.R. 1589), was incorporated into the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024. Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.), Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), and Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.) and U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) welcomed $137,178,000 in federal funding to support disaster recovery needs associated with the destructive floods in Roswell and Chaves County as well as the South Fork and Salt Fires in Lincoln and Otero Counties. This federal funding is allocated through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) grant funds.
