Rep. Leger Fernández on NM Legislature Sending Early Childhood Education Funding Constitutional Amendment to Voters

March 20, 2021

SANTA FE - Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández released the following statement in response to the New Mexico legislature approving the sending of a constitutional amendment to increase funding for early childhood and K-12 education to the state’s voters:

“Our children face high poverty rates and low student outcomes in New Mexico. We know - both scientifically and in our hearts - that investing in our youngest children is the right thing to do. This is a step in the right direction to ensure bright futures ahead for generations to come,” said Leger Fernández. “I applaud the hard work from our state legislators and advocates across the state, who for years have advocated tirelessly for our children. We must always invest in the things we believe in - and we believe in the value of education and our students. I will continue to work with my colleagues on the House Committee on Education and Labor to increase funding for early childhood education and complement New Mexico’s efforts.”
