Leger Fernández Statement On House Passage of the Budget Resolution to Advance the Build Back Better Plan

WASHINGTON - Today, the House of Representatives passed the budget resolution, the first step to move forward with the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the Build Back Better Plan.

Today, the House of Representatives passed the budget resolution, the first step to move forward with the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the Build Back Better Plan. Congresswoman Leger Fernández released the following statement in response to the vote:

“Back in March, Congressional Democrats delivered on the promise we made to the American people to take bold action to tackle the pandemic. The American Rescue Plan is working; it has reduced child hunger, gotten people to work, and put money directly into pockets. Now we must continue to meet the moment and build on this progress.

“Our budget reflects our nation’s values. We value our families, our workers, and the future of our planet. Alongside the bipartisan infrastructure bill, I know that these investments will bring economic security and a sense of hope to the American people. I look forward to working with my colleagues to ultimately pass transformational legislation which will uplift workers and families, invest in our children, and address climate change. We are addressing the fundamental inequalities in American life. The American people deserve nothing less.”

Brief Overview: Build Back Better Plan

  • Lowers Costs for Americans: Cut costs for child care, the price of medicine, home care, and the cost of college.  For the first time, seniors will be able to get the hearing aids, glasses and dental care they need through Medicare.  And families will have paid leave when they need it.
  • Cuts Taxes for American Families: The Build Back Plan extends the expanded Child Tax Credit for several more years -  delivering one of the largest tax cuts for American families ever.
  • Creates Millions of Jobs: The Build Back Better Plan will ensure that the U.S. will not only compete but lead the world’s race toward a clean energy future. Winning that future depends on creating incentives for the production and purchase of electric vehicles and manufacturing supply chains for a broad range of clean energy products and technologies.
  • Tackles the Climate Crisis: The Build Back Better Plan addresses the climate crisis head-on through critical policies and incentives that will reduce U.S. carbon emissions 50 percent by 2030.
  • Is Paid for When the Wealthy Pay Their Fair Share: Billionaires and corporations who now avoid taxes will pay their fair share. No one who makes $400,000 will see an increase in their taxes. Instead, the typical American family will see their costs and their taxes cut.
