WASHINGTON - Today, President Biden announced his American Jobs Plan to reimagine and rebuild a new economy.
Today, President Biden announced his American Jobs Plan to reimagine and rebuild a new economy. The plan outlines a once-in-a-century investment to create millions of good jobs, rebuild our country’s infrastructure, and tackle the climate crisis in a way that addresses racial injustice and invests in underserved communities. “The American Rescue Plan will help every American family suffering from the pandemic back on their feet. I heard from New Mexicans in every corner of my district about its importance. Congress listened to their voices and we delivered. “But we can’t just stop there. We must build on the progress we’ve made. “We need to pass bold, transformational legislation that builds for a future where our communities thrive. Our economy needs to work for everyone. We must acknowledge that access to the internet is not a luxury, it’s a necessity for every American, everywhere. We should empower every worker with the tools to thrive. “President Biden’s American Jobs Plan provides a vision to achieve those goals in an inclusive and equitable way. This plan addresses the key issues I raised with White House to ensure a just transition. The job plan includes those elements: $100 billion to achieve broadband for all. Investments in water efficiency and recycling to ensure states like New Mexico always have reliable access to water as we face drought. Over 40% of the investments go to historically disadvantaged communities. There are funds for cleanup of environmental issues, capturing methane and transiting to clean energy. I am confident the administration has heard our call to ensure that communities most impacted by the transition will receive the support we need to diversify our economy, create jobs, and generate tax revenues to fund our schools. “I look forward to working with the Biden Administration to make sure the legislation meets New Mexico’s needs,” said Leger Fernández. The American Jobs Plan includes many of Congresswoman Leger Fernández’s priorities outlined in the infrastructure letter she sent to the administration late last week, including: Tackling the climate crisis
A just transition
Investing in our rural, Tribal, and historically underserved communities
