Washington, DC – Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández secured an extension of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) application deadline for the Critical Needs Assistance (CNA) Program until Thursday, June 2nd, 2022.
Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández secured an extension of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) application deadline for the Critical Needs Assistance (CNA) Program until Thursday, June 2nd, 2022. Last week, the Congresswoman sent a letter to FEMA requesting an extension of the deadline to allow more time for individuals and families in need of assistance and resources. The CNA program provides a one-time $500 payment for eligible impacted households to cover immediate needs. This includes life-saving and essential supplies, including water, food, first aid, prescriptions, infant formula, diapers, consumable medical supplies, durable medical equipment, personal hygiene items, and fuel for transportation. To receive a CNA payment, individuals must apply for individual assistance under FEMA’s general program. You can do so by registering at https://www.disasterassistance.gov or calling 800-462-7585 or 800-462-7585 for TTY. More information is available on my website at https://fernandez.house.gov/resources/new-mexico-wildfire-resource-guide. "Last week, I wrote a letter to FEMA requesting an extension to the CNA deadline, and we received a notification that FEMA granted our request. This extension will help displaced individuals with some of their immediate needs as we continue to address this wildfire. Unfortunately, the Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon Fire continues to ravage our precious lands and just became the biggest fire in New Mexico's history – with no clear end in sight and only 26% contained – we don't know when this will end." said Leger Fernández. "I will continue to use my voice and carry our people’s pain as I seek federal resources to help.” Today, FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell will be in New Mexico alongside U.S. Fire Administrator Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell, for operational meetings with state and local officials to discuss ongoing wildfire response and recovery efforts. Rep. Leger Fernández created a federal wildfire disaster assistance resources page on her website. If you or a loved one are in need of assistance, please visit this link. ### |
