Leger Fernndez, Lujn Introduce Legislation to Strengthen Land Grant Communities Rights

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, U.S. Representative Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.) and U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) introduced the New Mexico Land Grant-Mercedes Historical or Traditional Use Cooperation and Coordination Act to provide greater cooperation between the federal government and land grant communities. There are 27 community land grant-mercedes that are recognized as political subdivisions under New Mexico law.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has named Col. Jay Mitchell as the Director of Operations, leading the day-to-day operations for both the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Office (Claims Office) and Stafford Act wildfire disaster recovery operations based in Santa Fe. Mitchell is expected to begin in May and will be supported in his transition by leadership at FEMA.

N.M. Delegation Announces $235.1 Million From Infrastructure Law To Fulfill Indian Water Rights Settlements

WASHINGTON — October 31 – U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández, Melanie Stansbury, and Gabe Vasquez and U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Luján announced a $235.1 million allocation to continue fulfilling settlements of Indian water rights claims using funding from the Infrastructure Law and the Reclamation Water Settlements Fund.
