WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Leger Fernandez (D-NM) released the following statement after Trump posted calling on Democratic lawmakers to be arrested and tried, and amplifying posts calling for them to be hanged.

“We all saw what happened on January 6th—I was in the Capitol complex that day—we know what Trump’s calls for political violence look like. Now, he’s going even further, asking for patriotic Democratic Members of Congress to be tried, and hung for reminding America about the importance of upholding the Constitution”

“The very members he is attacking answered the call to serve the nation in our armed forces. They were willing to put their lives on the line to defend our country. They served tours of duty in dangerous places like Iraq and Afghanistan. It is absolutely wrong that Donald Trump is putting their lives in danger here in America with his posts.”

“What kind of country does Donald Trump think we are—when a veteran’s life is now at risk because they’re standing up for the rule of law? This is not the America we all love.”
