After 100 Days of Trump’s Chaos and Corruption, Congresswoman Leger Fernández Demands Action to Protect American Families on House Floor

Washington, D.C. – Today, on the 100th day of Donald Trump’s second term, Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández delivered a powerful speech on the House floor condemning the President’s destructive policies and the Republican majority’s failure to act on behalf of working families.

“After 100 days of chaos, corruption, and economic sabotage [...] Americans disapprove of Trump because he is destroying our economy and betraying his promise to lower costs from day one,” said Congresswoman Leger Fernandez

“Republican voters are going to Republican town halls and yelling at their Representatives to do something. While Americans want us to have the courage to  stand up to Trump, House Republicans are doing the opposite,” said Leger Fernández.

The Congresswoman outlined the grim portrait of Trump’s first 100 days:

  • 100 days of economic pain as Trump’s on again off again tariffs tank the dollar, drive up prices, and threaten a recession.

  • 100 days of chaos in the White House, where Secretary Hegseth texts war plans to journalists and the administration belittles allies while embracing dictators like Putin.

  • 100 days of corruption, as billionaires like Musk and DOGE take Americans’ personal social security data, and fire the employees we need to process those social security checks.  They fired the auditors and inspectors so no one is there to sound the alarm when Musk steers contracts to his companies.

  • 100 days of courtroom drama, with courts—district, appellate, and even the Supreme Court—saying Trump’s actions are likely illegal, unconstitutional, and must be paused to avoid irreparable harm.

“Trump is wrecking the economy and betraying the American people,” said Leger Fernández. “And Republicans in Congress aren’t just standing by—they’re helping him do it.”

The Congresswoman slammed the Republicans’ latest proposal to slash Medicaid in order to finance tax cuts for the 759 richest Americans. “That means cutting off health care for 72 million children, seniors, pregnant women, and people with disabilities,” she said. “That means closing rural hospitals and health centers that serve entire communities.”

She concluded her remarks by highlighting a provision Republicans buried in today’s legislative rule that would shield Secretary Hegseth from scrutiny over his dangerous handling of classified information.

“No courage, just capitulation,” she said. “Instead of helping lower costs for working families, Republicans are pushing bills to dismantle protections for our air and water. That’s not leadership—it’s negligence.”

The Congresswoman urged her Republican colleagues to reject the rule and stand with the American people, not the billionaires.
