Rep. Leger Fernández Statement on Election Certification

WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández released a statement following the certification of the Electoral College presidential tally today:

“Today, January 6, 2025, Congress peacefully and quickly certified the Presidential election,” said Leger Fernandez. “Today stands as a stark contrast to Trump’s violent mob’s attack on the Capitol in 2021 where 140 law enforcement officers were injured, and we didn’t finish the certification until the early hours of January 7.”

“January 6th should be a day of celebration—a day to honor our democracy, New Mexico’s Statehood, and the tradition of Día de los Reyes Magos, the Day of Epiphany. Instead, it will forever be remembered for the violent attack on our Capitol by a mob incited by Donald Trump, attempting to overturn the will of the people.”

“We must never forget the assault on our democratic institutions or the bravery of those who defended them.”

“Let this day serve as a solemn reminder of the fragility of our democracy and our unwavering commitment to protect it,” she concluded.
