Leger Fernández Sworn In for 3rd Term in the House of Representatives, Votes Against Republican Rules Package
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Leger Fernández was sworn into the 119th Congress to begin her 3rd term serving the people of New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional district.
“Standing on the House floor of the People's House for my third term, the responsibility of service is as real as the first day I took the oath of office to represent the people of New Mexico’s 3rd district,”said Leger Fernández. “Standing in that space, you feel both the significance of our history and the promise of our future.” Soon after being sworn in, the Congresswoman voted against a Republican Rules package which does nothing to address the high cost of living, help families buy a home of their own, or keep social security and Medicare alive. Instead, the Rules package continues the division, dysfunction, and disregard for working families from the last two years. “We know there’s a lot of work to do for New Mexico and America,” said Congresswoman Leger Fernández. “That’s why we will fight when we need to and work for bipartisan wins when we can. Unfortunately, my first vote this Congress had to be against a Republican Rules Package that’s full of hate and fear mongering.” “It's disappointing, though not surprising, that Republicans’ Rules Package is full of hateful, fear mongering, and redundant provisions that do nothing to help American families,” said Congresswoman Leger Fernández. “There is nothing to lower grocery prices, help workers, or make housing and health care more affordable. Instead, it criminalizes reproductive health care providers who are saving women in crisis at the end of their pregnancies. Let’s reject their distractions. Let’s focus on the real threats to women and work to provide us the protections and economic opportunities which would make a difference in our daily lives,” she concluded.
