Rep. Leger Fernández Announces Congressional Art Competition Winners

WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández announced the 2021 Congressional Art Competition winners for New Mexico’s 3rd congressional district.

Today, Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández announced the 2021 Congressional Art Competition winners for New Mexico’s 3rd congressional district. Students from 19 schools across the district submitted 65 art pieces for this year’s virtual competition.

“New Mexico is no stranger to exceptional artists and it’s clear that the legacy lives on with these young creators,” said Leger Fernández. “Each piece we received blew the judges and myself away. I’m thankful for the work they put into them and for the art teachers across the district that continue to encourage and inspire their students.”

“My deepest congratulations to our top award winners. Our first place winner, Elijah Phillips, created a stunning piece with just a simple pen and pencil. This fantastic piece of art makes New Mexico’s 3rd district proud and will hang in the Capitol for the next year.”

 This year’s winners are:

  • First Place: Elijah Phillips, Los Alamos High School
  • Second Place: Esperanza Chavarria, Los Alamos High School
  • Third Place: Ayed Awad, The Academy for Technology and the Classics
