SANTA FE – In response to the Pentagon’s announcement that US forces have left Afghanistan, ending a 20-year war that left nearly 2,500 Americans dead and nearly 50,000 Afghan civilians dead, Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández released the following statement: “Today America’s longest war has finally come to an end. President George W. Bush began this war 20 years ago, and now President Biden had the courage to end it,” said Leger Fernández. “How you end a war matters. I call upon the Administration to put a plan forward to ensure the safe evacuation of any remaining Americans who wish to leave, and Afghan allies - especially those who assisted our troops and the women and girls whose rights are at increased risk. Let’s end this war by welcoming refugees, protecting our allies, and saying no to any future endless wars.” ### |
