SANTA FE – Tomorrow, Saturday, March 27, 2021, Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández (NM-03) will join a Congressional delegation to the El Paso sector of the U.S.-Mexico border. The delegation, hosted by Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16), will meet with NGO representatives and immigration advocates and visit the El Paso Border Patrol Central Processing Center, an HHS/ORR facility for unaccompanied minors, a migrant shelter, and the Paso del Norte Port of Entry.

“As a country, we have hard work ahead to build a humane immigration and asylum system rooted in a deep understanding of the causes of migration and empathy for our fellow people. New Mexicans understand the value of community and we know that all communities are intertwined, and we must take care of one another,” said Leger Fernández. “I thank Rep. Escobar for hosting this visit to El Paso so we may gain a further understanding of the challenges facing our border communities.”

“As the Biden administration works with urgency to restore compassion and humanity to our immigration system and address root causes of migration, it’s important for Democrats and Republicans in Congress to understand as much as possible about ongoing challenges at U.S.-Mexico border,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “I thank Congresswoman Leger Fernandez for her willingness to visit El Paso to see the full and complete picture as we focus on solutions.”

Following the visits, Leger Fernandez and her colleagues will brief the press. She will also be available for virtual interviews following the visit. Please email maria.hurtado@mail.house.gov if you’d like to schedule a virtual one-on-one.
