U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.), Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), and Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.) and U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), are welcoming $11,855,081 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Capital Fund Program to support 21 public housing authorities across New Mexico.

“This $11.8 million investment from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will help local housing authorities make necessary repairs, upgrade to energy-efficient heating systems, and conserve water,” said Leger Fernández. 

"Stable housing changes lives," said Stansbury. "This money from the HUD Capital Fund Program means more New Mexicans will have access to newly built or modernized facilities. The nearly $12 million coming to our state will help create lasting generational change."

New Mexico will receive a total of $11,855,081 in federal funding from HUD. The grants announced today are an increase of over $133,000 from last year’s funding level. This annual funding program for public housing authorities supports building, renovating, and modernizing public housing across New Mexico. Housing authorities can use the funding to complete large-scale improvements such as replacing roofs or making energy-efficient upgrades to heating systems and installing water conservation measures.

Funded through HUD’s Capital Fund Program, public housing authorities can utilize these investments to provide critical funding for the development, financing, modernization, and management improvements of public housing developments.
