SANTA FE - Today, Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández (NM-03) released the following statement on the 11th anniversary of President Obama signing the Affordable Care Act into law:

“Today, we celebrate the work Democrats have done to expand and strengthen access to affordable and accessible health care. The passage of the Affordable Care Act 11 years ago was the first of many steps we need to take to ensure that all people, in all parts of our Nation, have access to the affordable quality care they need.

“Just this month, Congress passed the American Rescue Plan to give communities the resources to beat this pandemic. I urge New Mexicans who are currently uninsured or underinsured to take advantage of the Special Enrollment Period that is running now through May 15th and get covered.

“The pandemic put a spotlight on the work we still need to do to fix our health care system. In New Mexico, our hearts have broken over the devastating impact that this pandemic had on our Native American and Latino communities. Affordable health care should never depend on your employment, your income, or your zip code. I am committed to the work ahead to making health care a right for all Americans and to protect all of our communities.”
