Rep. Leger Fernández Visits with Local Veterans Across Her District and Works to Keep VA Clinics Open in New MexicoCongresswoman Leger Fernández visited every community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC) in her district that is at risk of closure. In addition, she held listening sessions in every affected community as part of her ‘Voices for Veterans’ or ‘Voces de Veteranos’ tour. She will continue to carry their voices in the halls of Congress as she works to keep the clinics open. Recently, the VA recommended the closure of 4 CBOCs in her district. The Congresswoman strongly opposes these closures. Combined, these clinics serve 4,717 New Mexico veterans in predominantly rural areas. The VA office of Assets and Infrastructure Review (AIR) Commission is tasked with reviewing the recommended closures. “It is our nation’s duty to provide veterans the health care, services, and support they have earned. These closures would put our veterans at risk and make it harder for them to receive essential health services. We must uphold our obligation and ensure that all veterans receive the care they deserve no matter where they live,” said Leger Fernández. EVENTS: 3/22/2022 - Rep.
