SANTA FE- Today Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández (D-NM-03) hosted a roundtable discussion with U.S. Secretary of Energy (DOE) Jennifer Granholm to discuss the future of local innovation and technology commercialization through the Department of Energy in New Mexico.

Roundtable participants included the Secretary, the Governor of Pueblo of Santa Ana, Joseph Sanchez, representatives from Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories, and several stakeholders from the private and public sectors. During the roundtable, the Congresswoman discussed the importance of collaboration among New Mexico’s Department of Energy facilities and the private sector to accelerate technological innovation that will create good-paying jobs, promote U.S. economic competitiveness, and lower costs for Americans.

“DOE and our national laboratories are engines for science and innovation. To fully realize the value of these incredible resources and for the DOE and labs to benefit from private sector entrepreneurship, it’s critical that we invest in and prioritize the transfer of technologies from lab to market. I joined Secretary Granholm and other leaders in our innovation ecosystem to discuss challenges and opportunities to further grow technology development and commercialization in New Mexico and across the country.” said Leger Fernández.

During the event, the Congresswoman highlighted the collective efforts between New Mexico and the federal government to deploy clean energy, reduce costs for families, increase domestic manufacturing, and create opportunities for good-paying jobs.
