WATCH: Leger Fernández On House Passage of the Women’s Health Protection Act

September 24, 2021

WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Leger Fernández voted for the Women’s Health Protection Act to protect the right to access abortion care throughout the United States, no matter what state they live in.

“New Mexico is a border state with Texas. Because of the draconian Texas abortion ban, Texas women are driving hours to receive reproductive health care in New Mexico,” said Leger Fernández on the House floor. “We are receiving women’s rights refugees- our Texas sisters - we’re receiving them with open arms, open hearts, and open clinics. New Mexico knows that a woman’s freedom to make difficult health decisions belongs to her alone.”

The congresswoman also pointed out that the Women’s Health Protection Act would protect minority, LGBTQ, and low-income communities who can’t afford to travel and access quality abortion care. Leger Fernández is an original co-sponsor for the Women’s Health Protection Act.
