Rep. Leger Fernández Statement on President Biden’s Address to a Joint Session of Congress

April 28, 2021

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández (NM-03) released the following statement following President Biden’s Address to a Joint Session of Congress:

“I came to Congress to serve our beloved communities knowing the gravity of the complex issues New Mexican families face. Our work can mean the difference between food on the table or going hungry; homelessness or a home; and life or death. In the Administration’s first 100 days, we delivered on our promise to pass bold COVID relief and get our nation back on its feet.  But we did so knowing that this was just the beginning.

“Tonight, President Biden inspired a nation. The American people and Congress heard a message of hope. He laid out a clear vision for how we build back better, together. His American Jobs Plan and the American Families Plan will tackle the interconnected crisis we face. It will build on the progress we have made. This would include once-in-a-generation investments in the things we all love and believe in like our children, our families, and our future on this planet.

“Now is the time for bold ideas. Now is the time for transformational change. I look forward to the next 100 days of work with President Biden and his Administration to rebuild our country so that every community can thrive. Let’s close the systemic disparities that the pandemic laid bare. I am ready to continue the work that the American people demand and deserve.”
