WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández issued the following statement after the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Conference Report failed to include the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA).
Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández issued the following statement after the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Conference Report failed to include the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA): “At the last minute and behind closed doors, Republican leadership stripped critical compensation for downwinders and uranium workers from the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). It is absolutely outrageous,” said Congresswoman Leger Fernández. “Downwinders and uranium workers suffer from debilitating and deadly diseases related to building and testing nuclear bombs. Our bipartisan coalition will not give up — we will fight to pass RECA and secure justice for our beloved New Mexico communities who unknowingly sacrificed so much for our nation’s security,” she concluded. ### |
