Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández released the following statement in reaction to Senate Republicans blocking a bill to create an independent commission to investigate the January 6 attack on the Capitol: 

“The Senate Republicans that voted against the creation of this bipartisan commission have made one thing clear: they value their alliance to Trump over the heart of our Nation - our democracy.

“Domestic terrorists attacked and sought to undermine our democracy with violence - moving on is not an option. Senate Republicans’ failure to act will not hold us back from getting to the truth and ensuring it never happens again. I’m calling on Speaker Pelosi to create a Select Committee to provide the American people with the facts about the January 6th insurrection. If Republicans won’t join us to protect our democracy, we have an obligation to do it ourselves.”
