We recently assessed the damage that Chavez County's 500-year flood event caused. We walked through the muck that destroyed people's homes and cars, Roswell businesses, and the artwork in its famous museum. We heard stories of families stranded on top of trucks, hanging on to trees and watching in horror from the convention rooftop. But we also heard stories of neighbors saving each other from danger. New Mexico is resilient.
I immediately pushed to have a federal disaster declared as quickly as possible after the State sent in its request. The federal government is now mobilizing resources to help families and businesses recover.
